Nashville Vacation

Last week Jeremy & I had the opportunity to take a week-long vacation to Nashville with the Franz family from our church. Pete had a Jackson-Hewitt conference at the Gaylord Opry Hotel & they offered us to come along & help with the kids. We were pretty much just responsible for our food so not a bad deal, huh?

We left at 1am on June 2 with a major thunderstorm going on. Jeremy did the first driving shift so he dealt with the rain. We finally made it to Nashville around 3pm.

We expected staying at this hotel would be so high class & big, beautiful rooms but the room was really no bigger than any other hotel. And when you squeeze in 4 adults & 3 kids it gets even smaller!

We spent the beginning of the week with Jamey (Jeremy's brother) & Jamie. On Monday we went to Carnton Plantation, a home that housed hundreds of wounded Civil War soldiers. Seeing the cemetary with all the gravestones was sobering realizing how many men died at just that one battle.

On Tuesday Jeremy took me to Zaxby's for lunch which I was very excited about. Zaxby's was in Greenville, SC & was the favorite spot to get some good chicken & that incredible sauce! Other than how good it is, it is also a very special place with many memories of my college days.

On Wednesday as we were walking to the pool Jeremy got a call with an offer for a job he interviewed for a month earlier. Of course, he accepted it. It will be in downtown Ft. Worth & 2 pay grades higher. This should also be a job that will open more doors for him in the future.

We started heading back home on Thursday. Since Pete pretty much worked the whole time, he wanted to do something fun. So we decided we'd stop in Memphis & go to Graceland. None of us were big Elvis fans but it is a famous site so we figured why not! We paid $60 to see a dead man's house! But it was still a cool house & took a while to go through the tour. I just kept evaluating our country's priorities when we pay that much to see an entertainer's home & pay much less to see one of our founding fathers' birthplace.

We stayed the night outside Tunica, Mississippi at the Gold Strike Hotel. No, we're not gamblers. But other people & they want cheap rooms so they can spend more gambling. So that meant a great hotel at a great price for us! And this room was much larger than the one at the Gaylord Opry.

Finally made it home on Friday after dealing with traffic in Dallas. We're definitely glad we decided to make the trip & get away for a while.
