Calling all CDing moms!

CD = cloth diaper

Jeremy & I intend to use cloth diapers for Shaylin. It's not so much an environmental thing, although I still agree that we are commanded in Scripture to take care of the earth. It's more a money thing. Sure, they're not cheap at first, but in no time at all we will easily make up the upfront cost. Plus, we would still like to have more babies if God allows it so the extra money saved will help even more by then.

So I need advice, tips, & websites. Which brands do you like, or dislike? Do you use the regular ones or pre-folds (still not understanding those)? How many do we need to buy? Do you buy them in sizes or the one-size-fits-all?

Pregnancy is a time for LOTS of advice. Some good, some not. I've gotten plenty already & know there will be more to come. And I'm ok with it. If it's not something I choose to do, I just keep that to myself. But this is one topic I want all the advice & comments I can get. I'm sure they will vary & that's fine. I've got 19 weeks (or less) to get ready for this baby & diapers are pretty important.

We CD (cloth diaper) part time.

My favorite place:

They have some awesome info, tutorials, estimates ect. They even have a program where you can try a couple of different kinds of CD for $10! You keep what you like (and pay for), send the rest back. If you don't like any of them, you've only spent $10. Then the company sells these as gently used diapers for a discount. This rocks b/c #1) Discounted diaps that have hardly been used. #2) Most of the time the prewashing has been done for you! I also think this store is great and has great service. I ordered a Mya sling from here, and the seem fell out upon washing. Well the sling is guarenteed, so I called them, and they took care of everything for me (sent me an envelop & took care of the return w/ the company).

Right now we have a couple of the bum genius 3.0. I do like them b/c the cover dries really fast (we line dry). The inserts can line dry o/n or in the dryer. I have the organic bum genius but I really don't like them b/c they take FOREVER to dry & you have to be careful w/ the seems on the legs. I am moving more towards having a diap, then a cover. I like it b/c you don't need as many covers as you need inserts (and they will stay better longer b/c you won't need to wash as many. I am always here if you have more questions!

I've heard from quite a few people that they like bamboozles too. I would like to get a few to try.

Washing is easy, I dump the dirty diaps into the wash (from a wet bag) and do a cold rinse. Then I do a hot wash w/ a detergent (I used Charlies soap). B/c the microfiber inserts for bum genius can get something of an odor, I add a tiny bit of bleach to just the inserts every 8 weeks or so. The poo (after they start formula or solids) is the biggest pitb (if the stools are loose anyway-- if they are solid then you just flush the rice liner down the toilet, easy!). Ha ha. I use rice liners simply b/c we do this part time, but if we did it full time I would get the little shower attachment.

I hope that helps. Seriously, read that website... that is where I learned everything! You will find everyone has a different opinion (and there are a million CD out there). That is why I liked trying it out for myself w/ very little obligation!

Good luck!
