22 Weeks Pregnant!

How your baby's growing:

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. Her lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and she's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath her gums. Her eyes have formed, but her irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her body and the deep wrinkles on her skin, which she'll sport until she adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside her belly, her pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Whew! What a weekend! Thursday morning I woke up with some drainage which later gave me a sore throat. I blamed it on hormones because I had the same thing happen early in the pregnancy.

But then Friday morning I woke up & knew something else was wrong. I could feel the nasal congestion coming in & got a temperature of 99.1. Sure that’s low but when you’re pregnant you can’t take it lightly. So I stayed home & called the doctor to find out what I should do & what I’m allowed to take. I later learned there is very little I can take. Pretty much it’s Tylonel & Sudafed only, drink lots of water & juice, & get lots of rest.

Sleep wasn’t coming easily for me. I just couldn’t fall asleep or stay asleep. My temperature kept going up & down. The highest it went up to was 99.8 sometime Saturday night & I’ll admit I was starting to get a little scared. All the media hype out there about the flu & how bad it is for preggos was starting to get to me.

But finally on Sunday I felt like I was on my way to being on the mend. I slept great all the way to 11:00 & my temperature was finally back to normal. I even felt well enough to do a little bit of cleaning up in the kitchen Sunday night.

Of course my greatest fear the whole weekend was if Shaylin would be ok. I was reassured by some paperwork I found from my doctor’s office that said that fevers after the 1st trimester pose less of a treat to the baby & it’s really only a problem if it gets over 100.4, which mine did not. And the meds I took, though they did little for me, were safe for her. And best of all she was active all weekend. Maybe it was all my inactivity kept her awake. But I like to think that it was her little way of saying “Don’t worry, Momma. I’m ok in here.”
